About

Studio 4°C is a Japanese animation studio founded by Morimoto Kouji, Tanaka Eiko, and Satou Yoshiharu in 1986. The name comes from the temperature at which water is densest. They are known marrying the spirit of independent festival animation with a more mainstream anime aesthetic. In addition much of their output is considered superflat with some artwork from Morimoto being featured at Takashi Murakami's exhibitions. Besides larger productions like Memories, Spriggan, Princess Arete, Animatrix, Mind Game and Tekkon Kinkreet, the studio has also produced a number of short movies, OVAs, video clips, and commercials.
