About

Yuuki Kawaguchi hails from Kumamoto Prefecture in Japan. After graduating from Buntoku Gakuen High School, he attended Sojo University and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2018. It was during his time at university that Kawaguchi would make his professional debut as a manga artist with the one-shot Skeleton Bolt (スケルトンボルト), which was a runner-up in the Jump New World Manga Awards in June 2017. He won the Supernova Award and the same work was later published in Jump GIGA 2018 Winter, released on November 24 of the same year. Later in 2019, he published another oneshot, Devil in the Wasteland (荒野の悪魔) in Jump GIGA 2019 Winter. Following this, he would release another batch of one-shots for Jump+ and Weekly Shounen Jump, including Red Hood (レッドフード), which won the 14th Golden Future Cup in 2020. Kawaguchi would start his first serialization with Red Hood - based on the aforementioned one-shot - in the pages of Weekly Shounen Jump in June 2021. The series lasted for 18 chapters before being cancelled later that same year. For an unspecified period of time, Kawaguchi was an assistant to Kouhei Horikoshi on Boku no Hero Academia, and following the cancellation of Red Hood, began working under Yuusei Matsui on Nige Jouzu no Wakagimi. In April 2025, Kawaguchi would return to the magazine with his second serialized work, Otr of the Flame (灯火のオテル). The series ended up being cancelled in January 2026, with 35 chapters and four volumes. His favourite manga series are JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, and Hinomaruzumou. His hobbies include Lego and Magic: the Gathering, and Kawaguchi is also known for his passion for strong women and marine animals, especially hermit crabs. He also enjoys collecting toys, especially those inspired by marine animals, such as the AZ-10 Sea Panther from the "Zoids Advanced" line, or the "Capsule Kanzume Mecha" toy line. Kawaguchi also has a fascination with European folklore and mythology, and he also has extensive knowledge of military machinery, especially tanks. Twitter: @KawaguchiTw
